The Big O – LU’s Course on Orgasm

What is an Orgasm?

An orgasm is when the body experiences a rise in the intensity of sexual arousal and sensitivity that peaks for a few moments, then falls to a lower level of arousal. During the peak of orgasm, the muscles involuntarily tighten and contract, while the clitoris and head of the penis become extra sensitive.

Dr. Ava’s Stages of Orgasm:

1. Foreplay
2. Excitement
3. Plateau
4. Orgasmic
5. Resolution

The Female Orgasm

20-50% of women suffer from some form of sexual dysfunction including lack of desire or pleasure, lack of sufficient lubrication, or the inability to climax at all. Only a small percentage of women can orgasm via intercourse alone. The majority of women need clitoral stimulation on order to achieve an orgasm. Masturbation is useful in helping women to learn how to achieve orgasms and what types of stimulation bring the most pleasure.

The Male Orgasm

Orgasm in men usually accompanies ejaculation, but this is not always the case. Some men ejaculate several seconds after orgasm, some men do not ejaculate at all, but can still experience climax, and some men may experience several ejaculations and continue to have further orgasms without ejaculation.
